Dezeen has curated an exhibition during the World Design Cities Conference in Shanghai to showcase works by Chinese and international architects and designers that successfully bridge east and west.
Titled Global China: Connecting the World Through Design, the exhibition will take place from 27 to 30 September in Shanghai.
It will feature six architecture and design studios, including Neri&Hu, Büro Ole Scheeren, AIM Architecture, FOG Architecture, Min Chen and PULI Innovation.
Spanning architecture, interior design and design, each studio will present the most iconic projects they have completed in China via models, sketches and photography.
The exhibition aims to demonstrate how international collaboration and cultural exchange can foster innovation while showcasing China’s influence as a growing design power.
FOG Architecture designed the exhibition space to feel like a round table, forming a platform for the community to gather around and share ideas on equal terms.
According to the studio, this responds directly to the curatorial approach of the exhibition, which invites both home-grown and international creatives whose work in China has had an impact on the global stage.
In addition to the exhibition, Dezeen’s co-CEO Benedict Hobson and Dezeen’s China editor Christina Yao will host a talk on the opening day of the conference, inviting architects and designers from the participating studios to share their experience of working in China and tell Chinese design stories to the world.
This exhibition coincides with the third World Design Cities Conference (WDCC) conference at the Shanghai Expo Urban Best Practices Areas in Shanghai.
Organised by Shanghai Municipal Government and United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation, the four-day event will explore the theme of “Design Reframing Growth” via a series of talks and exhibitions, in an effort to establish Shanghai as a global hub for design exchange and collaboration.
Global China: Connecting the World Through Design will run from 27 to 30 September on the third floor of Dingbo Building, the main venue of WDCC. Scan the QR code below to find out more information and register your free ticket for the exhibition.
More details of the exhibition, including details of the work on display, will be announced in the coming weeks.
